Signs Of The Apocalypse: Guitar Idol

Posted by Revelation 23 on August 26, 2008

I thought it couldn’t get worse than the plastic belt buckle that you’re supposed to strum while avoiding being arrested for performing lewd acts in public.  I should’ve known better.

Enter Guitar Idol.

What is it?  It resembles an overgrown guitar pick with speakers and a headphone jack.  You strum along with the included songs (two) and the thing fills in the rest of the music.  Or something like that.

The Handbanger’s Hero headset can’t be too far behind.

Stargate: Continuum

Posted by Revelation 23 on August 4, 2008

Continuum is the second direct-to-DVD release for Stargate, taking place after the premiere episode of Stargate Atlantis’ fifth season (“Search And Rescue”).  Ba’al’s last remaining clone has been captured and Samantha Carter has returned to Earth to join SG-1 for the Tok’Ra’s extraction ceremony.  However, the IOA has decided to relieve her of command of the Atlantis Expedition at the same time.

As with The Ark Of Truth, Continuum may be hard to follow if you’re not familiar with the series.  Continuum revisits a number of points in the series and shifts things around a bit.  Actually, it may be harder to follow, and there’s no recap of events leading up to it.  That said, this is definitely not a proper introduction to Stargate.

When I first heard the basic idea behind Continuum, I thought it was going to be like a bigger budget version of Moebius (the two episode story that ended season eight) with a slightly different cast.  Truth be told, parts of Continuum do play out that way, but it ended up better than I expected.

While I won’t go into great detail about the plot, there are still some potential spoilers after the jump.

Stargate: The Ark Of Truth

Posted by Revelation 23 on August 4, 2008

I know The Ark Of Truth came in the end of March, but I never got around to finishing a writeup about it at the time.  Since I just got Continuum, I figured I’d do both at the same time.

The Ark Of Truth is the first direct-to-DVD release for Stargate, following the cancellation of the series after ten years (the first five on Showtime, the second half on the Sci-Fi Channel).  It concludes the Ori story Arc, which was to continue into the eleventh season.  Wrapping up the Ori arc in an hour and a half instead of a handful of episodes seems rushed, but I think the cast and crew managed to do a good job with it anyway.

If you’re not familiar with Stargate SG-1, you may feel lost with the new Stargate movie(s).  Fortunately, The Ark Of Truth includes The Road Taken – Prelude To Stargate: The Ark Of Truth, which summarizes the Ori story arc from seasons nine and ten.  While not comprehensive, it should refresh viewers’ memories and offer an introduction for fans who aren’t overly familiar with the last two seasons of Stargate SG-1.

While I won’t go into great detail about the plot, there are still some potential spoilers after the jump.

Games I’m Looking Forward To: Part Two

Posted by Revelation 23 on August 3, 2008

Some more games I’m looking forward too.  Again, there’s a lack of PS3 and Wii games on this list.  I still haven’t really seen anything for those consoles that I must play.  Maybe that’ll change some time later.

Games I’m Looking Forward To: Part One

Posted by Revelation 23 on August 1, 2008

Now that E3 and QuakeCon are over with, I figured I’d make up a list of some of the games that I have an eye or three on.  You may notice a lack of Playstation 3 games and Wii games on this list. Why? None of them have really captured my attention.

I don’t keep track of games like I used to. I don’t usually get a chance to play new games, and when I do have the extra money, my choices are limited. In reading stuff online or watching stuff on TV, there haven’t been any PS3 or Wii games where I’ve said “I want to play this game” or “I need to get this game”. I know that there’s a bunch of good games for those consoles and I’m probably missing out on a lot of great stuff, but it’s been that way for me for a long time. I don’t have the time or the money to keep up with everything in gaming. As far as the consoles go, the 360 has more of what I want to play than the Wii or PS3. That’s not to say I won’t be getting those consoles and some games at some point, but I’m sticking with the 360 and the PC for now.
