Signs Of The Apocalypse: Rush Limbaugh, Pageant Judge

Posted by Revelation 23 on October 18, 2009

Rush Limbaugh is no stranger to headlines lately, but it’s been focused on the possibility of becoming part owner of the St. Louis Rams, which is no longer an option for Limbaugh.  There had been a lot of speculation about what having him as an owner might mean for the team and the entire NFL, given his often controversial comments, among them the remark about quarterback Donovan McNabb (or rather, how the media covered him) that lead to his resignation from ESPN.

That’s not the only Rush Limbaugh news, but there’s something you may have missed while the debate over his possible NFL ownership went on (which hasn’t completely died off, now the blame game has started up), not to mention all the coverage “balloon boy” has received.

Rush is going to be a judge at the next Miss America pageant.

*sigh*

Maybe I’m being pessimistic, but I don’t think this isn’t going to end well.

Signs Of The Apocalypse: Gene Simmons’ Kidney Stone

Posted by Revelation 23 on June 5, 2009

Recently, Gene Simmons passed a kidney stone and decided to put it up on eBay for charity, raising $15,000.

Ummmm…. yeah.

Sure, it’s not tissue, fluids or anything, but I have to wonder if this is actually “allowed” under eBay policy.

Strangely enough, this isn’t the first kidney stone to raise cash; William Shatner sold a kidney stone in early 2006, raising $25,000 for Habitat For Humanity.

Signs Of The Apocalypse: Twitter On TV

Posted by Revelation 23 on May 26, 2009

A reality show that turns following celebrities on Twitter into a competition? Sounds like a GREAT idea.

Wait, isn’t that called stalking?

Signs Of The Apocalypse: The Tissue

Posted by Revelation 23 on December 18, 2008

Apparently Scarlett Johansson got a cold from Samuel L. Jackson while filming The Spirit.  Now, she’s auctioning off a used tissue for charity [USA Harvest] on eBay.

Eww.

A used tissue isn’t explicitly mentioned, but isn’t this something that would be against eBay policy?

As the time of this posting, the current bid is $2,151.00

Signs Of The Apocalypse: GNR vs. Dr Pepper

Posted by Revelation 23 on November 27, 2008

In another fine example that the lawyer will join the cockroaches after the fallout has settled, Guns N’ Roses has taken aim at Dr Pepper, claiming that the Dr Pepper Snapple Group failed to make good on its promise to give away Dr Pepper if Chinese Democracy was released this year.  Axl Rose seemed to not mind when it was announced, offering up words of support at the time.

The album was released and the company does intend to do what they said they would.  Unfortunately, they weren’t prepared for the overwhelming response and the website buckled under the strain, forcing Dr Pepper to extend the window of availability.

But the laywers are claiming that the promotion hurt the launch of Chinese Democracy and goes on to say that GNR’s rights were violated in the process.

WTF?

Isn’t there anything better to do than go after a soft drink maker?  And over this?

Signs Of The Apocalypse: Hoffspace

Posted by Revelation 23 on September 11, 2008

The Hoff + Social Networking = WTF?

Is it April 1st already?

It’s not?  Damn…

I’ll let this one speak for itself.  Click here to get your Hoff on.

Note, someone else owns the hoffspace.com domain, so The Hoff couldn’t use that instead…

Signs Of The Apocalypse: Guitar Idol

Posted by Revelation 23 on August 26, 2008

I thought it couldn’t get worse than the plastic belt buckle that you’re supposed to strum while avoiding being arrested for performing lewd acts in public.  I should’ve known better.

Enter Guitar Idol.

What is it?  It resembles an overgrown guitar pick with speakers and a headphone jack.  You strum along with the included songs (two) and the thing fills in the rest of the music.  Or something like that.

The Handbanger’s Hero headset can’t be too far behind.

Signs Of The Apocalypse: Hurl!

Posted by Revelation 23 on May 30, 2008

What do you get when you combine the oh so spectacular world of competitive eating, carnival rides and the end result of Fear Factor?  That’s right, Hurl!.  Welcome to G4’s latest bitch slap to its past life as ZDTV and Tech TV.

To be honest, I’ve hardly watched anything on G4 since the change.  The only good thing they had going for them was one of the aspects they kept around: X-Play.  But even that’s suffered in the wake of T&A, sexual innuendo, crotch shots and all around stupid for stupid’s sake.

I wound up watching several episodes of Ninja Warrior during the marathon they had, ending with Ninjafest 2 (the specials regarding the three G4 viewers who were a part of the 20th tournament).  While not the kind of thing I normally watch, it wasn’t all that bad and didn’t rely on the aforementioned “features” of G4.  It was fun to watch, both the failures and successes.  Sure, it’s not like what I usually watch and is certainly not something I would’ve expected on ZDTV or Tech TV, but there’s nothing wrong with doing something different.  Thing is, it wasn’t stupid, and the guys who put together MXC over on Spike could learn a thing or two.  We don’t all want stupid crap on our TV’s.

The prospect of watching someone gorge themselves for the purpose of puking last doesn’t sound all that appealing to me.  Sorry, I’d rather watch some of those God-awful reality shows scattered across the networks and cable channels than watching people vomit.  Change can be a good thing, but the change to G4 is not an example I’d put on the list of good things.

I wonder if the people at G4 have ever seen Robot Chicken on [adult swim] and are considering turning Who Poop Last? into a real show – if there isn’t already one in Japan (no offense meant, but really, there’s some rather… um, questionable stuff over in the land of the rising sun).  Hurl! is pretty close to that already, they’d just have to switch ends and not show anything.  Because that would be wrong.  Doesn’t mean someone won’t.

It seems that as time goes on, there’s more and more you can get away with.  Just look at South Park.

Signs Of The Apocalypse: Board Games At The Movies

Posted by Revelation 23 on February 20, 2008

Apparently, Universal Studios has a deal with Hasbro to bring some of its properties to the big screen.  Monopoly, Magic: The Gathering, Candy Land, Clue, Ouija, Battleship and Stretch Armstrong have been mentioned.

We’ve had Clue before and a Ouija Board has been involved in more than one movie.  Magic: The Gathering could end up being a CG fest of fantasy.  Might as well get Uwe Boll on board for that one.

But Monopoly?  Candy Land?  Stretch Armstrong?

BATTLESHIP?!?

What’s next?  Pictionary?  Operation?  Hungry Hungry Hippos?  Connect Four?  Rubik’s Cube?  Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots?

Oh wait, that last one was Transformers, wasn’t it?  And yes, I do know there was a Rubik’s Cube cartoon on Saturday during the 80’s (Rubik, the Amazing Cube) - I remember watching it a couple times.

Signs Of The Apocalypse: Will Ferrell

Posted by Revelation 23 on February 6, 2008

Watching TV last night, I saw a commercial for the latest sports related movie with Will Ferrell, Semi-Pro.

That makes four sports movies in four years.  So far.

Kicking And Screaming (2005)
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
Blades Of Glory (2007)
Semi-Pro (2008)

What’s next?  Oh, right.  The adaptation of Land Of The Lost.  Which will be his second, unless you also count Bewitched, which wasn’t exactly a remake.
